One of our least family favorite trips we decided to take was one to Florida when the kids were younger. We were all excited about the trip as it was to be our very first trip home since we had moved up north. Everyone was eager to see their friends and family. We all piled in the van with our swim suits and big dreams of fun and sun. About two hours down the road we began to experience some trouble with high engine temperatures. We overheated twice before deciding to pull over and fully evaluate the situation. We found a small town mechanic who took a peek under the hood. The first decision was that the fan needed to be replaced, but the part would not be able to arrive until the next day. We crashed in a hotel and waited for the part. The part was put in and we were on our way. Sadly, about ten minutes down the road the van overheated once again. We turned around and headed back to the mechanic. This time we needed to replace the radiator, and again we had to spend the night. So, two days into our trip we had spent all of our money on car parts, hotel, and food. The kids were crushed when we told them we had to go back home. Needless to say, this is not a family favorite memory, but it did teach us that sometimes we just don’t get what we want.
